How to
dress like a Hippie

The first thing to know about Hippie clothing
is that despite its color and style Hippie clothing is first about
function. The Hippie way of life is an active out of doors way of life
that often requires clothing that allows a great deal of movement and flexablity. Each Item of clothing that a Hippie
wears has a reason other than just the way it looks. Im going to go through the wardrobe of a Hippie
and explain how each item is used.
We start with the Icon of the hippie the Tye Dye T shirt. This item is the most useful of
the hippie wardrobe. Not only can it be used as a shirt its also a handy bag for carring
things in. Often used as a washcloth, towel and dishrag. Skruched up and used as a pillow or dunked in the creek and worn
on the head like a turban to keep cool on a hot day. For the
Hippie Mama it makes a good emergancy
diaper. And an over sized Tye dye is used
as sleepwear though hippies useually sleep
in the buff.
Drawstring Baggypants.
Comeing out of the Califorina Surfwear
of the 1970ies these are the first pants designed to be taken off in
public. Competition surfing surfing
depends on getting the right conditions and surfers would oten have to wait on the beach for hours but
needed to be ready at a moments notice. Waiting on the beach the wind
could oten get cold in just a pair of swimtrunks and surfers wanted to cover up when
the breaze got a bit to nippy,but going to
the changeing room took to much time. Baggypants were the answer to the problem. Made
of lightwight cotton with a drawsting waist and a baggy style they cand be put on over swimwear and put on and
taken off easyly. In the 1990ies the use
of Baggies expanded to all the other Xtreame
sports taken up by the Youngbloods of the
90ies Hippie resurgence.
Underwear.. What are you silly? Hippies dont find
much of any use for these. Except for silliness.
More often worn without pants then with Underwear are used for swimwear
or sleepwear two activities Hippies useually
do not wearing anything at all.
Shorts.. Basiclly
pants without legs. The only special use is to keep cool on hot days. Hippies dont use
them in water. They have a tendancy to get
waterlogged when swimming.
SwimWear... Where Swimwear is
needed to keep the Mainstreamers from complaining the Bikini is the choice of the Hippie for bouth sexes. For dudes a Bikini
is known as Ba'hamas. For Xtreame sports the Bikini
and Ba'hamas provide for the best flexability and least drag in the water. For sunworhiping hippies and tanmongers
they provide the greatest exposure allow by law in the U.S.
The Sarong. In the Hippie
style these are worn by bouth Dudes and
Chicks. The Sarong is a simple peice of batiked or tye dyed
cotton often wraped around the waist and
worn like a skirt,but
has just as many uses as the T shirt.
Guatty bag..
And absolute nessessity
for every hippie. what else are you
going to keep all that shit your carrying around in?
The Vest. Extra
pockets ofcourse.
Sandles..
Why sandles instead of shoes? Because the
confined sweat damp space that shoes create for your feet are like
wearing bacteria factories on your feet. the
sweat glands on your feet are where your body dispels a good deal of
waste products and poisons. You wonder why your shoes stink? Its because
they are full of waste and bactria.
Do yourself a favor and dump your shoes in favor of a good Pair Of Berkenstocks.
